We tracked AI citation rates and Map Pack movement across 8 NJ industries through Q1 2026 to identify which categories have the most aggressive AI competition and what's working in each. How We Measured "Winning"
For each industry, we tracked 30 high-intent transactional queries across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT (with browsing), Perplexity Pro, and Gemini between January and April 2026. "Winning" businesses are defined as those cited in 30%+ of category queries across at least three of the four AI surfaces. We benchmarked against Map Pack position and compared AI citation rate to organic ranking to identify divergence.

Counties: Essex (Newark legal hub), Hudson (Jersey City), Bergen, Mercer (Trenton). Legal AI competition in NJ is intense and rising — operators who haven't built a defensible AI citation stack by end of 2026 will be effectively invisible to a generation of clients who research lawyers via AI tools first.
Categories Where AI Search Is Still Catching Up
Three categories have meaningful runway before AI competition saturates:
